Our volunteering scheme is open to people of any background, age, gender, with any level of experience. Volunteering in the workshop alongside our trained mechanics will help you learn a lot about bikes – from how they run and work, to maintaining and repairing them to a high standard.
An initial lack of knowledge shouldn’t hold you back from applying to join our scheme – we’ll start you off stripping down the donated bikes for useable parts, and will build up your knowledge at a pace that suits you.
I love bikes. I love riding them, I love cleaning them and I love fixing them. That’s why I went on a Bike Maintenance course to learn proper skills to keep my own bikes in tip top condition. With my new found skills I wanted to get more practice and Bike Revolution provided the perfect venue to hone these skills. The mechanics have shown me different ways to apply my knowledge on bikes of all shapes and sizes. Volunteering there has been more rewarding than I expected. Taking bikes and refurbishing them into fixed and rideable machines is incredibly satisfying. Some of the donated bikes are in good condition and just need a service, whilst others present more of a challenge to return to a road worthy condition. It’s these bikes that I really get a chance to get my teeth into and oily hands to boot. Knowing that one of the bikes I have fixed has been sold and will be enjoyed again makes me really happy.
Everyone at Outfit Moray and Bike Revolution has made me feel welcome and part of the team. All are truly dedicated to this great charity, professional to a fault and have a great sense of humour. I always look forward to my next day volunteering and the challenges it will bring.
The scheme is fairly flexible, with both morning sessions (9:30 am – 12:30pm) and afternoon sessions (2pm – 5pm) available most weekdays.
